This year's draft has been dubbed as very weak; lacking both depth, promise, and stardom. Many insiders, and analysts have crowned it as one of the worse draft classes in league history. So does this mean that all 60 players will never be any good? Although none may win a league MVP, be a perennial All-star, or a All-NBA star, this draft may have a few Joe Dumars, Robert Horries, Dennis Rodmans, and/or Mark Jacksons. Hall of fame players that developed into ultimate champions, and winners by mastering his role during a playoff run, or tough series, when the "Superstar" talents can't deliver. Whose to say that Kemba Walker can't be a Jason Terry, or that Kenneth Faried can't be Ben Wallace? This draft is full of role players; role players that make a difference between being Bill Russell, the greatest champion of all time, and Wilt Chamberlein, the most dominating player over a league being held hostage by the great Celtics. This draft will create some major shock waves in the basketball world in year 1. I believe that 5 players will be successful as rookies.
Starting with:
5.Alec Burks SG out of Colorado, average 25 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists in the Big12 tournament, will be playing on a young Jazz team waiting for a new leader, a role he can easily take. He may be the most underrated guard in the draft, with a huge amount of potential, he to me can come in and be a versatile player similar to Andre Iguodala, with less athleticism but more offensive ability. I'm predicting about 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists on his young Jazz team.
4.Kenneth Faried PF out of Morehead state, averaged 18 points, 15 rebounds, and 2 blocks a game. He is a high energy player, that reminds me of Udonis Haslem. He has a strong work ethic and has great rebounding and defensive ability. He is the type of player that can win his team some games based off his non-box-score stats, charges, lose balls, diving on the floor, the dirty work that separates tough players from the rest of the league. He should be able to be a smaller Joakim Noah, and can be a defensive player of the year in the future. He surpassed Tim Duncan, the greatest PF of all time, in NCAA rebounds. He won't be a scorer, but he will get garbage buckets from his hustle, and rebounds. He could average 15 points, and 9 rebounds as a rookie, winning the Nuggets some games on back-to-back nights.
3.Derrick Williams F out of Arizona, he is the best player in this draft. He averaged 20 points, and 8 rebounds a game shooting 60% from the field, and 57% from 3. His athleticism will make him a monster on the court. He will be able to affect the game the way teammate, Kevin Love seemingly could not even with a 30 and 20 game. Derrick Williams has some LeBron, and Iggy in him, but not nearly as perimeter orientated as either of them. He is most similar to Josh Smith, but he CAN shoot. He's a tween-er that's quicker than a PF and bigger than a SF. He might get the T'wolves to 30 plus wins. I'm predicting him to be my early ROY. He will average about 20 points,7 rebounds, and 1 block a game. He may have the Blake-effect on Minnesota.
2.Kemba Walker PG out of UCONN, averaged 24 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game. But, what I love about his game is his clutch-ness. He led his team to a national title, and showed that he can make the big play in the crunch. Also, he played NBA minutes(37.6 per game, and showed that his endurance keeps his IQ high. He is able to break people down 1-on-1, and can make the right play. Oh, and did I mention he will be playing for the most clutch winner of all time?? Yes, Kemba will be mentored by MJ, making him an even better clutch player. I expect a few game winners, and he will average 18 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals a game. He reminds me of Allen Iverson, he won't be nearly as dominant, but he will have his moments.
1.Kyrie Irving PG out of Duke University, averaged 17 points and 5 assist, in his 11 games at Duke. His high basketball IQ, maturity, and intelligence will allow him to be a great LeBron replacement. He will be able to control a game scoring or passing, and he reminds me of Chauncey Billups, he's not an athletic beast like Derrick Rose, but he can win, and win however his team needs it. Anything this young man does can and will improve the Cavs. He has a rub-off effect and will have to outplay Baron Davis, to earn the starting job. It will be fun to see, I see him averaging 18 points, 7-8 assist per game, playing about 38-40 minutes, and Cavs might win 32 games. He may be the next Chauncey Billups or Steve Nash, and has the most to prove.
This draft will defy the odds, and silence the critics, these 5 players will be the leaders of the pack.
